Abstract:
The research on unacceptable behaviour of younger school-age children is significant and justified mostly due to avoiding the occurrence of behaviours that in adulthood take on a different manifestation and duration, are detrimental to the child and the environment, and we call them behavioural disorders. Moreover, there has been a lot of literature and research on the topic of behavioural disorders in adolescents and young people, but researches that cover inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour in younger children are rare. The family plays a significant role in the prevention of unacceptable behaviour. Parents’ interest at school age is mostly (or exclusively) directed to success in school, while an interest in the complete development of a child's character is lacking for many reasons. Parents must direct their interest and time towards the space of leisure time in which intellectual, emotional and social skills can develop. A positive family atmosphere develops through daily quality communication where a democratic (authoritative) upbringing style prevails.
The aim of the present research was to discover the connection of family atmosphere and the occurrence of unacceptable behaviour of younger school-age students. A family atmosphere can be positive or negative, which influences the upbringing style of parents. The upbringing style can be authoritative, authoritarian, compliant or neglected. In the present research, and it is measured through three factors achieved by factor analyses: daily communication of parents with children; parent attitudes towards school grades; communication in solving mistakes made by children. The most frequent manifestations of unacceptable behaviour have been researched which we divide into passive and active forms. Keywords:
Active forms of unacceptable behaviour, family atmosphere, parents' style of upbringing, passive forms of unacceptable behaviour.
