Abstract:
One of the main aims of the Slovak Republic and other countries is to modernize the labor market and empower people by developing their skills throughout their working life. Lifelong learning is a primary element of the knowledge society, which is considered to be an essential aspect of not only the working life but also the private life of people. The article deals with the analysis of current possibilities of continuing education of self-government offices employees in the Slovak Republic with a focus on language education, information and communication technologies, education of employees in managerial positions and education focused on the personal development of employees. The survey is carried out in the form of the questionnaire survey, which is divided into two separate parts: questionnaire for employees of self-government offices and questionnaire for management of self-government offices in the position of the employer. The questionnaire aims to find out current status in providing continuing education for employees of self-government offices in the Slovak Republic and their requirements, as well as to compare the system of continuing education in individual self-government offices. Based on the findings, it is possible to propose a unified education system of employees with the aim of naturally and continuously integrating education into the working life of employees. The self-government offices have important areas of society within their competence, such as education, health, social services and transport and their functioning has an impact on society as a whole. Therefore, it is important that employees of self-government offices have the knowledge and skills to ensure the functioning of these aspects of society. The contribution also deals with the onset the 4th industrial revolution, which has a profound impact on both the private sector, public administration and academia and ultimately society as a whole. It is important to take into account this diversity and diversity of generations when setting up the education system.
