Abstract:
Nowadays feature film discourse attracts an attention of many linguists studying the questions of discourse. It is known that feature film discourse is interesting firstly from the point of view of translation. That is the reason the training course “Feature film studies” has been included into curricula of some universities in Kazakhstan. The object of the course is the feature film discourse and the subject - its linguistic analysis. While working with the feature film discourse the project methods are used as one of the types of innovative methodology. The project methodology is grounded on developing students’ cognitive and creative skills, acquiring an experience to achieve acknowledge independently, attaining the skills to orientate in informational field, developing critical thinking. The project methodology is always oriented to students’ independent activity and presupposes solving a problem which assumes using various methods on the one hand, and on the other hand – integration of knowledge and skills from different scientific fields, technologies, creative exploration. During the lessons on “Feature film studies” students prepare the project paper “Linguistic analysis of the feature film discourse”. As the feature film discourse is a multicomponent unity, linguistic analysis is understood from different points of view. Thus the project paper includes the following topics: Film genre, its main features; Film characters; Film plot structure; Film audio-video code; Film social and cultural components; Film translation; Evaluation of a project by students. It should be noted that students seem to become more motivated about language learning when a film is involved. Feature films attract students’ attention, and because they are not designed for instructional purposes, they reflect authentic use of the target language. Besides students learn more about culture, national traditions and customs. Feature film discourse has meaningful language through interesting content and extended context, thereby enabling learners to become more motivated to learn and communicate in the target language.
