Abstract:
As the HEI educators in the field of Arts and Humanities, we are working internationally with a huge diversity of students - in terms of age, language, ethnicity, gender. The ideas, shared in our report, are based on both personal and team-based teaching experience and are summarized in the up-to-date curricula of Degree Programmes in Drama and Vocal Arts, implemented by the St. Petersburg University (Faculty of Arts) in 2020.
The existed crisis urges us to find complex solutions and to invent new ways for keeping the Performing Arts students employable in the post-pandemic times. The Results of our research are structured as follows:
- firstly, we present methodological strategies, which are both effective and relevant in the global context;
- secondly, as an example, we include the practical report on two core courses, elaborated and updated recently for the Performing Arts students, majored in Drama and Vocal Art: «Contemporary Music», conducted by Prof. Svetlana Lavrova, and «Management in Culture and Arts», conducted by Prof. Galina Zhukova.
-
The abovementioned courses are elaborated for the 4-year Bachelor Degree students, and are taught in the 8th semester (together with the Degree Programme preparation). Both courses are designed to be taught in English, to increase student’s interests, engagement, and mutual understanding in terms of readiness for international employment and global recognition. The aims of the courses are to investigate each student’s perspectives to become the independent artist and/or educator, responsible for the actual state of the cultural and social environment worldwide. The new skills gained are as follows: assertiveness, leadership, critical thinking, cross-cultural understanding. In addition, the students perform several internship activities in Stage Performance and Teaching for the multilingual audience. Focused on the best transformative educational practices to enhance Performing Arts graduates’ global employability in the post-pandemic world, we define, that nowadays any competitive curriculum in Performing Arts, acclaimed globally, has to update the course repertoire by focusing on language and cross-cultural adaptive skills.
