Abstract:
The aim of this article is to show the influence of Old Church Slavonic on the modern Russian language. In Russia like in any other country there is a unique Russian linguistic picture of the world which is based on the diversity and originality of the culture and mentality. Although any language is an “evolving organism” that is prone to certain alterations, changes, novelties and metamorphoses, many realia have existed for ages. Being unaware of their background it is difficult to understand the meaning in the mother tongue to say nothing of interpreting in a foreign language. That impedes cross-cultural communication. The author studies a number of frequently used words and expressions giving their meaning in Church Slavonic and the meaning in every-day Russian. The author analyses the stereotypes of perception of such words and phrases. Using the methods of comparative analysis, observation, the method of analysis of product and results as well as statistical and testing techniques the author offers a list of most frequently used word and expressions derived from Old Church Slavonic.Keywords:
