Abstract:
This research explores the effectiveness of AI in literature review writing and identifies potential risks of academic misconduct. I conducted 3 rounds of workshops, totaling 12 sessions, each lasting 2 hours. A total of 33 senior undergraduates and postgraduates attended.

During the workshops, students became familiar with AI platforms such as Avidnote, Elicit, and Scite. They then completed a focus group interview and a questionnaire survey to share their experiences using AI to compose their literature reviews. The findings indicate that students find these AI tools beneficial for efficiently locating relevant sources and summarizing information. However, the analysis revealed a tendency among students to copy and paste AI-generated content without modifications, risking superficial analysis and potential academic misconduct.

The discussion highlights the importance of integrating AI tools into research writing pedagogy to enhance students’ efficiency in retrieving and summarizing sources. Meanwhile, human tutors should provide instructions to help students avoid academic misconduct and ensure logical coherence and critical evaluation in their writing. Furthermore, as ethical considerations regarding AI usage in academic contexts should be addressed,  the paper will suggest guidelines to use AI properly based on the research results.
