Abstract:
Effective practical implementation in the system of organizing distance education in Universities when teaching students a foreign language in lockdown conditions is possible if there is a pre-prepared telecommunications and human resources infrastructure and measures to ensure comprehensive life safety. First of all, students need special hardware and technical equipment at home, in student dormitories with high-speed Internet connection. Secondly, we need a digital educational platform on which training is carried out. Third, we need a specially developed methodology and an educational resource aimed at full language learning by students.
There are many ways to learn a foreign language using e-learning resources, some of which have advantages and some of them disadvantages.
The paper discusses the advantages of using the digital educational platform Microsoft Teams in comparison with the previously used Virtual Classroom in the process of teaching English at the University. According to the curriculum, English is taught using a basic textbook. During face-to-face classes, the teacher has the opportunity to control language learning visually by the reaction of students. In the remote format, you have to use the video conference methods available for this purpose, if the educational platform allows it.
Students are also given various tasks to study reading, writing, vocabulary and grammar, listening, etc. and the possibility of using digital educational platforms.
The paper also presents comparative results of tasks performed by two groups of students who studied on the Microsoft Teams platform and in a Virtual Classroom. The results of this study are presented in summary tables, where you can see which group performed better. The tables also show the percentages of the individual student and each group as a whole.
The results of this work can contribute to the further solution of many problems related to studying English, especially in lockdown conditions, working on various platforms. Keywords:
