Abstract:
Given the fact that English has become a means of intercultural communication, integrating intercultural communication and cultural competence skills learning into English language teaching is both necessary and possible. There are many ways that cultural differences are taught in the classroom. Each aspect in the program is an opportunity to provide cultural education. The purpose of this article is to summarize intercultural teaching techniques which help to develop learners’ cultural competence. I predicted that the most productive, practical ways to teach culture effectively along with teaching a language are: using authentic materials, discussions, role plays with cultural elements which help to practice speaking and using language in unpredictable situations. Multicultural groups may also present cultural resources. Task-based approach method was used as the main one. In the course of research the activities for developing reading, speaking, listening and writing skills were probated and used in the classroom. A summary of the personal experience is given in the article. In the final part the assessment procedure is described.
