Abstract:
EFL teachers in Algeria during the COVID-19 pandemic have experienced a set of challenges which are by no means different from other teaching specialisms. This study concerns remote language instruction during the pandemic, aiming to figure out the main factors which have shaped language instructors’ attitudes using different online platforms. Teachers of English in Higher Education institutions have been invited to contribute to an online survey, which identified a variety of aspects that facilitated or hindered their teaching. Data were also collected through interviews to cross check the survey data. Results showed that teachers’ accessibility and familiarity have been marked as the main influencing factors which created negative attitudes towards their use of online teaching. In addition, lack of training and technical support were also highlighted as factors which are directly related to their lack of familiarity of online resources.
