Modern social and political as well as economic conditions create urban environment that is characterized by a high degree of professional dynamics, political instability and unpredictable future. It makes young people feel uncertain about their desired future and gives rise to groundless hope for random success. The desired future is as a rule associated with employment that can provide a decent life for an individual.

The professional future implies an existence of several alternatives of the future and an ability of a person to influence the desired future. A process of predicting the professional future is of great importance in this respect.
The aim of the research is to substantiate the theoretical and methodological approaches to studying the predicting of the professional future as a basis for stable development of urban environment and to determine their predictors.

The extend of a problem:
Main functions of predicting social and professional future are its advancing reflection, forecasting (planning), adaptation to landmark events, reflexion of the past and present, creation of the temporary transpective, desire – possibility correlation, assessment of real achievements and mobilization of activities (efforts) to implement one’s own plans.

Research methods:
Logical-evolutionary approach focuses on predicting the professional development on the basis of regularities of an incessant process of individual projection and self-development.
System – dynamic approach is rooted in the concept of synergy – with its core statement about acceleration of social changes, instability, imbalance, diversity.
Project approach provides for prediction realization by an individual, organizations, enterprises and public institutions.
Personality approach admits that a personality, its need for self-development and self-actualization of professional and psychological potential can be considered as a main driving force prediction.

Research results:
1. Projecting individual trajectories is a sense – generating activity to foresee one’s own future. Its fulfillment presupposes having a prognostic competence which determines the possible routes of achieving the future.
2. As approaches to the study of the forecasting of the professional future we have identified Logical-evolutionary approach, System – dynamic approach, Project Approach and the Personal Approach.
3. As projecting the future on the basis of psychology is carried out in situations characterized by uncertainty, this process requires mastering the methodology for developing a social and professional forecast. The subject of psychology is subjective experiences of an individual, forecasting one's future based on the reflection of the past and the present, designing the desired future.
4. Psychologic ‘prompts’ a person to accept an erroneous forecast that distorts the logic of the future. Correcting destructive trends of shaping an image of the professional future is possible through individual professional consulting.

In conclusion it is necessary to underline that in the context of the constantly changing urban environment a process of constructing the professional future is determined by patterns of social and professional development of a person. It is a process and result of moving towards self-fulfillment. In order to create stable urban environment of contemporary metropolis young people have to construct and predict their professional future.
