Abstract:
This paper presents how the degree of immersion and the affective state of students was implemented and measured when using an educational application called FisicARtivo, which is a learning tool for Physics topics, which works on a web platform and provides the user with an interactive experience through virtual environments of Extended Reality (RX) including Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR).
FisicARtivo incorporates the recognition of affect or emotions focused on learning in order to record the affective state of the student, and evaluate the degree of immersion of the users of the learning tool during a session.
Our research work focused on measuring the differences in perceived immersion in different environments (AR, immersive VR, non-immersive VR), as well as the emotional or affective states of students when using a learning tool with XR immersive environments that presents educational content of Newtonian physics, with the ability to show AR and VR experiences from mobile and desktop devices. For this, an artificial intelligence (AI) model was used to identify emotions during the learning process (D'Mello model) based on features of the student's face, using a digital camera. In addition, augmented reality and virtual reality immersive experience analysis models were implemented.
