Abstract:
Adaptation and personalization of technology-enhanced learning (TEL) systems is currently an attractive topic in the field of learning science. Personalization aims to create a flexible learning environment in which students can choose their own learning path, which compliments their needs and requirements the most. When found in an adapted environment, students are enchased, motivated and more persistent in reaching their learning goals. The learning style, that is, the way in which students receive, process, and adapt information plays an important role in creating personalized e-learning environments.

In this paper, we analyze and discuss learning styles, curriculum, and behavior within the learning platform at RWTH Aachen University, in order to identify the relevant links between them. By analyzing a blended learning course, its learning material and students’ behavior, from the e-learning style point of view, we present instructional recommendations for the improvement and adaptation of the learning experience. Such detailed reviews add additional support for effective instructional design and creation of suitable personalized learning systems.
