Abstract:
The major changes of the economy, society and communication technologies in the last years have influenced the educational practices and learning behaviors, as well as the research cooperation. Therefore, the aim of this study is to reveal recent research focused on new experiences for international university cooperation in economic education and research in Romania. The paper discloses new trends for international university cooperation, with a view to identify some success factors that enhance the education and research outcomes. In this regard, a detailed literature review is undertaken with the obvious purpose of highlighting the importance of old directions in international education and ways of dealing with them almost two decades ago. In the same time, the literature review also includes recent trends in the field. By presenting them in parallel with the old trends, the authors manage to reveal significant changes that are able to dictate new imperatives for international education development. Going further, a brief overview of latest trends in student mobility is provided, along with several new destinations for international students. The authors make use of statistical tools and reports or publications disseminated by the European Commission, by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), by UNESCO, by Eurostat and others, in order to outline the most popular countries for study abroad or the most mobile students. Furthermore, the paper emphasizes some case studies regarding the experiences from international cooperation in economic education and research between universities situated in Romania and in other European countries. Nevertheless, the article provides an overview of developments in education around the world which may influence the international recruitment or the international collaboration. The findings of this study may be helpful for upcoming research in the area of international university cooperation, in order to find new trends in changing educational and research practices. They could also be helpful for stakeholders in education, for instance for those interested in building effective international educational programs.
