Abstract:
The level and composition of skills are essential for economic development and individual wellbeing. The present paper aims to explore how the stock of transferable skills acquired by the Romanian higher educated workers answer to job tasks and demands of the employers. The study analysis a unique data set that contains information on the skills use at the workplace. Data were collected via an online questionnaire based survey following the methodology used in the case of Survey of Adults Skills (PIAAC, OECD). The surveyed skills include: learning ability, reading and writing skills, numeracy, ICT skills, team work skills, communication and counselling skills, planning skills and influencing skills. Our results are useful for better designing the educational and training programs that are destined to increase employability and career prospects for individuals and performance of companies and national economies.
