Abstract:
The research developed in this paper aims to investigate the correspondence between the use of skills at work and hourly earnings within UK labour market. The findings of this study emphasize if there are different patterns for women and men with respect to the association between earnings level and the extent to which adults use different skills. The analysis is undertaken on data available from the ”Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies” (PIAAC) through the Survey of adult skills and includes the following skill use indices: the Index of use of ICT skills at work, the Index of use of influencing skills at work, the Index of use of numeracy skills at work, Index of use of planning skills at work, the Index of use of reading skills at work, the Index of use of writing skills at work and The index of use of task discretion at work. Multiple correspondence analysis was performed in order to explore the relationship between these variables and earnings.
