Much hope in developing countries is pinned on education to yield enhanced productivity, economic growth, social development and poverty reduction. However, for education to deliver on these expectations, it must be of sufficient quantity and quality to lead to meaningful learning among young people, a task known to pose considerable challenges. One of the most important challenges is to make the educational macro and governance environment more conducive to reform. This paper aims to deliberate on how the developing countries ought to be reconceived for better educational outcomes. It suggests that there are opportunities for collaboration between advanced and developing countries to nurture human capital, address any skill gaps and mismatches in the labour market. Challenges facing developing countries in the framework of the imperatives and importance of International Dimensions to improve the education system for sustainable development will be discussed.

The methodology of our study based on a series of steps usually adopted in conducting a systematic review. Explicit inclusion/exclusion criteria were used to conduct searches of bibliographical databases, key journals, and organisational websites. Supplemental keyword searches and hand searches were also undertaken. We have a comprehensive collection of literature covering a wide range of disciplines. For example, databases such as the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS: covering economics, politics, sociology and anthropology), Science Direct and Web of Knowledge (covering all sciences and humanities), and ERIC (Education Resources Information Centre) were used to ensure a broad coverage of all disciplines.

The study showed that the Major Rationales in developing countries are:
• Build human resource capacity;
• Promote the improvement of academic quality;
• Strengthen research and knowledge generation and capacity.

The analysis showed that the causes behind the gaps and education policy failures to maintain sustainable development in developing countries depend on many factors, such as low state capacity, poor administration, poor delivery system, poor governance, and poor community information.

Although internationalization can enhance education in those countries, it can cause a decline in the quality of national education programs under conditions of:
• Unregulated expansion;
• Unregulated courses border education;
• Lack of national policies, strategies and programmes to back up collaborations and partnerships
• Political turmoil causing Brain drain and elite flights
• National conflicts and bad national leaderships

We found that the international investments on education are of importance at this stage for developing school structures, curriculum programmes, and introducing modern teaching technologies. These investments may help to improve the quality and effectiveness of existing educational systems to meet the subsequent objectives:
• Education should be re-focused on developing needs
• Curriculum should be re-designed to fulfill local needs.
• Education must match local job needs and requirements.
• It is important to eliminate educational gap based on income and gender
• Education of females is especially crucial for development.

In conclusion, there's a desire to setup methods to align the economic success with social progress in developing countries.
