Abstract:
This study explored the factors affecting organizational commitment and its influence on employees’ performance in the banking sector of Pakistan. Two banks, namely Faysal Bank and Askari Bank were selected for this research. It focused on the relationship of career opportunities, work life policies and job characteristics to organizational commitment and employee’s performance. It is an extension of an existing model proposed by Dr.Sajid Bashir (2008). The qualitative and quantitative findings revealed that career opportunities, job characteristics and job satisfaction were directly related to organizational commitment and employee’s performance, irrespective of gender and age. However, it was found that the impact of work life policies varied from one gender to the other. Males and females had different attitudes towards work life policies due to varying socio-economic and cultural factors. Suggestions for the enhancement of organizational commitment were also discussed in the conclusion. This research can be applied in the banking sector and all the banks that have similar issues can benefit from it.Keywords:
