Abstract:

Background:
Raising the quality of space around us is an element necessary to achieve order in a built environment and the well-being of residents and city users. One element of such activity is caring for the aesthetic values of the environment.
For several years, we have been observing artistic activity in our cities - many new murals are appearing in the streets . Street Art becomes a public gallery. The aesthetic significance and social scope of architecture and art for the living space in the city can not be underestimated.

The role of murals is diverse:
They constitute an element of revitalization or decorating space - they bring about aesthetic values of the surroundings. They often become a tourist attraction- promoting the area or the city. They become a platform for the exchange of ideas being a medium of social communication, the plane of which is available to a mass audience.

Purpose:
The article is based on literature research and participant observation in the framework of plastic arts at the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology in the field of Architecture. The article presents students' works made on the subject of Color in Architecture on the second semester of the first year. The theme of the paintings was the mural project, which had to be created for the actual location chosen by them. This topic has been implemented in order to make students aware of the essence / importance of aesthetic issues, including color, form and content in architecture. The authors of the article pay attention to the fact that what arises in the space of art, architecture requires both the talent of the creator and the sensitivity of the recipient.

Conclusion:
Knowledge gained within the subject and used in creative work is a necessary experience to create conscious design space.
