Abstract:
Environmental Sciences arise as a direct response to the social need for professionals trained by and for the environment. Professionals who are able to address environmental issues from a multidisciplinary perspective, able to combine knowledge and actions of an environmental, economic and social nature, the basis of sustainability, and to respond to the ever-increasing legal requirements of the administrations. The graduate in environmental sciences is a professional trained to address a multitude of functions including: the ability to analyze the environment as a system, interpret and apply environmental regulations and policies, under a multidisciplinary work approach, as well as the ability to carry out waste management plans; perform environmental impact assessments; implement environmental management and auditing systems; manage and optimize the use of energy; plan and organize the territory; plan, manage and conserve goods, services and natural resources; evaluate and prevent environmental and natural risks, and prepare and interpret thematic cartographies. The Environmental Sciences Degree at University of Huelva was launched in 2009. The transversal skills for the degrees of the University of Huelva were adopted in its governing council on October 18, 2016. Therefore, the 5 transversal skills of the University of Huelva were established on this date: (CT1) Correctly dominate the Spanish language, the different styles and the specific professional styles and languages necessary for the development and communication of knowledge in the scientific and academic fields, (CT2) Develop a critical attitude in relation to the capacity of analysis and synthesis, (CT3) Develop an attitude of inquiry that allows the revision and permanent advancement of knowledge, (CT4) Ability to use the Informatics and Informational Competences in professional practice, and, (CT5) Ability to manage the strategies for the active search of employment and the capacity of entrepreneurship. This communication will analyse the five transversal skills for the 57 subjects of the Environmental Sciences Degree at University of Huelva. A benchmark will be made between mandatory and optional subjects. The objective was to identify the strong and weak transversal skills in each case and to establish possible improvements for successive improvements of the curriculum.
