Abstract:
The article examines the phenomenon of university museum as an important structural element of the sociocultural environment of the university. The article shows that the development of museums of Russian universities can be characterized by the strive for consistency. This consistency can be achieved by ensuring the completeness of collections, by the search for optimal forms and methods of safekeeping and exhibition. The authors analyze the role of major scientists, researchers, founders of scientific schools in the development of university museums. For centuries, museum collections and the museum space itself served as the basis for scientific research in which students participated. The article also analyzes the features of functioning of the university museum as a special institution of social memory and its differences from state museums. Analysis and interpretation of the research material showed that many university museums, while executing educational and scientific functions, have become repositories of historical information on the history of universities. The involvement of students in activities of the museum makes it possible to form a sense of spiritual commitment of young people to the alma mater, a sense of responsibility for future generations. The results of the study are based on the hermeneutic method and descriptive-interpretative analysis.
