Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to describe the process of designing and developing a sensor based mobile learning companion using design-based research methodology. Based on the previous research, the derived design considerations guided the digital prototype of the sensor based mobile learning companion, namely Charlie. Multiple iterations were conducted in the design and development stage and feedback from user participants and an expert was applied to improve the prototype. This paper describes the iterations of development and the constraints that were ascertained during the design-based research process. Weighing the resources and the goal, the future work is planned to investigate the impact of various sensor-based learning companions on self-regulated learning.
