Abstract:
The fans are the central components of ventilation systems and are used for ventilation, cooling, drying or pneumatic transport. The pressure characteristic curve of the fan or blower illustrates the operation and provides the user data that enable it to make an informed choice. The main idea behind this project is to provide an academic test bench to understand certain theoretical concepts discussed in class and allow students to make connections with what is happening in industry (fans characteristics, measurement techniques and acquisition, equipment selection, etc.). The Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) has published several technical papers on the ventilation systems, including the publication entitled field Performance Measurements of Fan Systems. This paper provides details on the measures applicable for a fan. Concerning students, it comes to measuring the operating characteristics of centrifugal fans and draw the characteristic curves according to AMCA standards. Students will develop an experimental method from the analysis of these standards. We also developed an assessment grid to validate the investigation quality. Students will be observed on site to validate performing experiments quality.
