Abstract:
Currently, we are in the “Third AI Boom”. The first two AI boom occurred in the 1950's and 1980's.

In this research, I discuss in three topics: first, what stage AI is now and how AI is impacting society now. Second, what AI can do on behalf of humans and consider what abilities AI cannot do. And finally, what kind of human resources are required in the AI era, and how to develop such human resources through education in university.

First, I researched what stage AI is in now and how it is impacting society.
Machine learning starts from 2nd boom of AI, and Deep learning has been started the breakthrough for strong AI in the 3rd boom. "Machine learning" is one of the analytical techniques for artificial intelligence, and "deep learning" is one of them. Machine learning refers to "technology that learns regularity and judgment criteria from data and predicts and judges’ unknown things based on it" and analysis technology related to artificial intelligence. Deep learning is a method that extends the analysis method called neural network, which is a more basic and widespread machine learning method and enables highly accurate analysis and utilization.

Next, we will also confirm what AI can do on behalf of humans and consider what abilities AI cannot do. AI continues to evolve to make our lives more convenient and comfortable. On the other hand, however we also must face the fact that AI will replace humans in their work.

Regarding the Japanese market, in 2030, it is estimated that 98.7% of hotel clerks (reception), 52.7% of real estate salespeople (buying and selling), and 51.7% of eyeglass technology salespeople will be replaced by AI in the survey of Nomura Research Institute in 2015. According the survey, it was confirmed that AI’s favorite jobs include routines with high and low difficulty. And the work in which an AI can substitute for a human is the work with logic, statistics and probability.

When we see the work AI cannot do, we found the first is High level communication ability.

This is to perform advanced communication such as understanding, persuasion, negotiation, and support. The second is Creative thinking. It is the ability to create new value regardless of existing methods. Third is transformation leadership. It shows a skill that understands various situations and presents directions and solutions according to one's sense of purpose that is a difficult job for an AI.

Finally, I considered what kind of human resources are required in the AI era, and how to develop such human resources through education in university. We are predicting that AI will exceed the capabilities of humans and that the singularity will occur soon, we are discussing how to prepare for that threat. However, we think that what we should aim for from now on is the "Model that coexists with AI and shifts people to higher value-added work “. The learning method in which students discover problems themselves, discuss in groups and form a consensus while exploring solutions that have never existed foster three skills required in the AI era, creative thinking, High-level communication, and leadership that can respond to change. The number of project-based classes in collaboration with a society that can develop these three skills is also increasing. I strongly hope we consider the social trends in the development of AI and the skill development required for students in the curriculum.
