Abstract:
In university education, Project-Base Learning (PBL) classes are widely conducted so that students can experience social activities. PBL classes are projects that apply the learned knowledge to solve real social issues. Companies have accumulated success factors for project success as project management (PM) methodology. However, teachers who have little experience in actual projects often apply their own way to educate PBL classes. Moreover, it is hard to say that the pedagogy of the PM education suitable for the PBL classes have been established. The typical PBL classes have two steps in its structure. The first step is to create a project proposal based on the innovative ideas to solve the social issues, and the second step is to produce the prototype to present the proof of concept. The project success factors are, clearly setting a goal, creating the project schedule to surely achieve the goal and so on. Those success factors have PM methods associated with them. In this paper, it is discussed that the PBL class structure can be associated with the success factors of project and their related PM methods. As a result, the PM methods suitable for producing results in the PBL classes are extracted as educational components. This PM education was conducted for university faculty members with little experience in PBL education and students. After the education, the survey was conducted and analyzed. The survey included the satisfaction level for the PM education, the empathy level for the definition of PM education summarized in one sentence and the empathy level for the purpose of this PM education. As a result, this paper showed the high satisfaction of the proposed PM education and the high empathy for the definition and the purpose of it. Based on the survey result, this paper revealed and discussed the correctness of the PM education. Important matters in implementing this education from the teacher side and the student side were also addressed.
