Abstract:
The purpose or the study is to determine the internet use of secondary school students and attitudes of their parents towards internet addiction of the students. Therefore it was examined how internet addiction of the students and attitudes of their parents change in terms of gender, number of siblings and educational position of the parents. In addition, it was evaluated how internet addiction of the students and attitudes of their parents change in terms of competence of the parents about internet use, technological devices owned by the parents. The survey model, which is a qualitative research method, was used in the research. The participants of the study consisted of 240 students at a secondary school in Northeastern of Turkey. The first is “Parent Internet Attitudes Scale” which consists of 25, five-point likert-type items revised by researchers in the study. Data was collected by the instrument from the students. The second instrument of the study is a 28-item “Internet Addiction Scale”. The data was analyzed by using SPSS. Consequently, It was determined that how the parents affect the students’ internet usage, negligence and authorities on the students.
