Abstract:
As many of you know, assessments, as crucial components of the learning journey, play a significant role in higher education. Recently, the emergence of generative artificial intelligence tools, such as ChatGPT, has introduced both challenges and opportunities in how we conduct assessments in e-business education. These tools have disrupted traditional methods but also opened the door to innovative possibilities.
In this paper, we will present two work-in-progress case studies in the field of e-business education that we are currently developing at Warwick University. One case study is an essay-style assessment activity that requires students to generate a creative marketing plan using generative artificial intelligence. Students will use AI tools to brainstorm ideas and seek clarification on unfamiliar concepts. The other case study is a simulated programming task in the e-business industry, which requires students to support existing Python code by troubleshooting with generative AI tools. Students will use AI tools as a coding mentor to help understand the errors and improve the code.
This project is a collaborative, co-design effort involving a dedicated team of educators, students, learning designers, and researchers. The innovative assessment activities, along with the development approach we identify during this project, will serve as valuable resources to guide us in designing future assessment activities, helping us effectively integrate generative AI tools into our assessment processes. Keywords:
