Abstract:
Upon facing the serious competitive environment in high-tech, the work of leader is full of much challenging and stress. To be successful in the workforce, high emotional intelligence and workplace spirituality would both play the significant roles. However, the prior studies were not conducted to explore the relationships and the impact of emotional intelligence and workplace spirituality on career success. Hence, it would be innovative to study this prominent issue.

The study first aimed to develop emotional intelligence, workplace spirituality, and career success scales for the leader in high-tech, then to compare the demographic differences of leader on emotional intelligence, workplace spirituality, and career success. Then, this study was to examine the relationships of emotional intelligence and workplace spirituality with career success of leader. Finally, the main purpose of this study was to explore the impact of emotional intelligence and workplace spirituality on career success; particularly, it would also attempt to empirically test the moderating effect of workplace spirituality on emotional intelligence and career success relationship.

This study utilized the questionnaire survey method together with statistical analyses as MANOVA, correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression. The research subjects was 147 leaders from different high-tech companies. Results showed that male leaders demonstrated higher self-awareness and self-motivation in emotional intelligence than female leaders, whereas leaders with higher education showed higher self-awareness and empathy than those of lower education. Moreover, there were strong positive relationships of emotional intelligence and workplace spirituality with career success. Then, both emotional intelligence and workplace spirituality was the best indicator of career success. Particularly, workplace spirituality had the moderating effect on emotional intelligence and career success relationship. Finally, some implications were provided for promoting career success and competitive advantage in high-tech industry as well as further studies.
