Abstract:
The development of mathematical literacy is one of the most important aspects of education. How is mathematical literacy defined? One possible definition is "Mathematical literacy is the ability of an individual to recognize and understand the role that mathematics plays in the world, to make well-founded judgments, and to integrate mathematics in ways that meet his or her needs in life as a creative, interested, and thoughtful citizen." Using mathematics in ways that help in achieving life's needs is one of the essential needs.

The influence of mathematics is visible in many areas of life and mathematics therefore permeates most subjects taught. Developing basic literacy skills, including mathematical literacy, is useful outside the regular classroom, too. There are many possibilities - leisure education, school project days, outdoor education activities, etc. This article presents an example of activities that can be used for a project day or activities outside the regular school day. These activities develop information and mathematical thinking.

The research was then based on these activities and the results are presented in the final paper. The respondents were students of the Faculty of Education at Palacký University Olomouc. Selected tasks were presented to the students for solution and their perspective on these tasks from the point of view of prospective teachers was investigated. At the same time, their awareness of the content of the concept of mathematical literacy and the importance of mathematical literacy for education was also investigated.
