Abstract:
This paper reviews the first phase of setting up a biomedical sensor and actor platform for interdisciplinary research projects. Biomedical sensors are increasingly used in non-medical applications (sports, concentration measurement, control systems). These projects have in common that researcher with different knowledge background work together in a team. The BIOSAP platform targets these research projects.
Today, students are using commercially available sensor systems (ECG, EEG). These systems tend to be expensive. In addition data of different systems has to be integrated in research projects (ECG, EEG, Temperature). Students have to make use of different APIs and various tools to analyse the data. As a result students tend to focus on sensor integration, but not on their research project.
Our objective is to provide a common platform for different sensors minimising the integration work. We provide a technical platform to link different sensors wireless. Data is captured, pre-processed and send to a data hub. The data is integrated here and analysed. Common tools can be used to analyse the data including Mathlab or c-programs.
We are describing the development approach and tools used in the project. We furthermore discuss challenges to set up a collaborative development infra-structure for the project (Requirements engineering, information and document sharing, common coding styles).
