Abstract:
East Carolina University’s College of Education is the largest producer of educators in the state of North Carolina and began using immersive simulation in educator preparation and development in the Spring of 2016. Use of the immersive online simulation has expanded across different program areas. As part of its work, the college partners with 43 primarily rural school systems in our region. Over the last three years, we have offered grants to selected school systems to share the immersive simulation as a way to provide professional development primarily to beginning teachers. We also offer professional development conferences to teachers from across the state, so they too may benefit from the ability to practice from the use of simulation as well as benefit from additional conference presentations by their peers and university faculty. This paper explores how rural schools and universities can partner to support the use of Mursion® in educator development.
