Abstract:
A Campus Wide Quantitative Reasoning Initiative
I will share how we are implementing quantitative literacy across the curriculum at Ohio Valley University. I will discuss what Quantitative Reasoning is and how we are involving faculty from different disciplines at OVU in implementing quantitative reasoning activities in our classes.
Procedures:
I will use PowerPoint and handouts to share with the participants the importance of developing quantitative reasoning in the students in each discipline. We will use materials from a variety of disciplines, not just science and math, to show participants how to help their students use material appropriate to their disciplines to develop quantitative reasoning skills. The participants will be actively involved in accessing their own quantitative reasoning skills.
Benefits:
Participants will leave the session with a better understanding of what quantitative reasoning is, and how important it is to integrate QR projects in their classes. They will have access to materials to help them develop QR projects for their own classes. They will also have some ideas on how to access their students QR skills.
Keywords:
quantitative literacy, multidisciplinary, activities, assessment.
