Abstract:
Dewis is a fully algorithmic open source e-Assessment system designed and developed at the University of the West of England (UWE). Dewis’ ability to communicate with the R statistical programming language greatly facilitates the task of generating bespoke datasets and their subsequent analysis. A Dewis-R interface has been developed which is an e-Assessment authoring tool where the questions are composed using a simplified Dewis question structure.

The employment of statistics e-Assessments at UWE was initially limited to those created by the pioneering joint work of the authors. However, here we report on the progress of a UWE Learning and Teaching Project to create a community of lecturers who will be able to author and share relevant, authentic and engaging statistics e-Assessments that enrich the learning experience of students. The background to and the rationale behind the project will be explained and examples demonstrating the types of statistics e-Assessments being employed will be presented. Interested delegates will be encouraged to explore a website of examples and hopefully join the community.
