Abstract:
The domination of information technology and related digitalisation and computerisation of almost all business processes influenced the emergence of a new trend in business management referred to as data driven management. IDC forecasts that amount of data generated in 2025 will be ten times greater than in 2016. These large sets of data used in decision making are called big data and their analysis is very important to realize efficiently different business processes.

The paper contains the review of job offers located on the European job portals and presents the results of the survey, which aim was the evaluation of the level of competencies in the area of big data possessed by IT students. The analysis of the fit of their competencies related to big data to the expectations of employers constitutes a key content of this paper. The obtained results indicate a low level of this fit and the necessity to modify higher education curricula to meet the requirements of the contemporary enterprises.
