Abstract:
The aim of this paper is to demonstrate how WeBWorK and MyLabMath improve the student success rates in two mathematics courses. WeBWorK, supported by the Mathematical Association of America and the National Science Foundation is a free online homework system. It features a National Problem Library (NPL) with over 30,000 mathematics problems. These problems cover a wide range of lower division undergraduate courses and select advanced courses, including college algebra, discrete mathematics, probability and statistics, single and multivariable calculus, differential equations, linear algebra, and complex analysis. MyLabMath is a commercial online homework system developed by Pearson, which covers a wide range of mathematical courses. WeBWorK and MyLabMath were adopted as the online homework systems in Differential Equations and Linear Algebra courses at Kennesaw State University respectively in Spring of 2023. As a result, the passing rates in both classes were significantly higher than other classes. The paper also shows how MyLabMath and WeBWorK were used and compares two systems.
