Abstract:
COVID brought about many changes in how people interact, work, learn, and teach. This paper examines how different countries adopted various technologies in the time of the pandemic, adjusted their K-12 and higher education systems, introduced new methodologies, and modified teaching practices. The audience will benefit from the overview of challenges in the education sector and technology-enhanced responses to COVID in over 100 countries in Africa, Asia, Australia, Central America, Europe, South America, Caribbean, Middle East, and other regions. A collection of resources (articles, blog entries, and reports from American Council on Education (ACE), British Council, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and World Bank) will be shared online on Diigo to present case studies from different countries. Though approaches in dealing with school closures, organizing remote learning and teaching, supporting teachers, students, and families, and making technologies available, were different and were highly dependent on economic, social, and developmental factors, lessons learned could be beneficial for many educators, instructional technologists, IT professionals, and policy makers.
