Abstract:
Higher education institutions have been trying to become innovative even in a pre-COVID era. There are currently several ranking systems that have innovation in education as a focal point: U.S. News, Reuters, and Times Higher Education. COVID brought about unprecedented changes in the Universities inspiring them to seek new ways and quickly implement innovative approaches to stay competitive on the national and international markets, provide business continuity in learning, teaching, and research, support the university community, and continue attracting, retaining, and graduating diverse students, drawing best faculty, and bringing more value to the society.

In this paper, I will provide an overview and share selected examples of how US higher education institutions were rising to the challenge and adapting their policies, practices, and procedures related to major university operations, from admissions, to supporting the new modalities of learning and teaching, to athletics, redesigning of learning spaces, assuring well-being of students and faculty, engaging with community and alumni, conducting research, organizing events online, hosting virtual graduations, etc.
