Abstract:
The paper presents the relevant principles of language education in Russia as the need to transfer learning English slang and vernacular language on the Russian language and the achievement of adequate translation. Language learning is analysed here with the aim to prove that media text slang translation is a valid method for language practice and improvement. The objectives of the research are to show the translation activities which enforce students’ awareness of language use and, to study the translation efficiency in learning English.

General scientific methodological basis of research is based on the educational principles of consistency, anthropocentrism and determinism. The principle of anthropocentrism determines human factor in the teaching language as important, which describes the specifics of slang units. The principle of consistency makes this approach essential to the description of slang, in which it appears as a separate layer of vocabulary in the language system.

The methods of the study are:
1) overview of the theoretical background, with re-analysis of the main empirical research on the effects of translation in the classroom, and attitudes toward translation,
2) questionnaire surveys of learning practices and perceived benefits,
3) analysis of translation activities in the language classroom.

The results of the experiment indicated that slang from the English language mediatexts has a well-established pronunciation and writing is used to describe new phenomena in the political, economic and social life. However, the majority of slang is at the stage of entering the Russian language and sometimes is used as terms. One of the effective tools of this approach is the use of media texts for foreign languages studies with the aim of a critical understanding of the slang words.

On the basis of the studies the conclusion was made that the English slang is a valid pedagogical tool in the foreign language learning that can help students develop and improve competences and skills as vocabulary, speaking, reading, writing skills, and grammar.
