Abstract:
Industry 4.0 is a digital revolution that all industrial enterprises are responding to and are affected by. With the digital revolution comes the automation of production, which will change the work system and also the requirements for work. Manual work activities will gradually be replaced by production automation, and therefore it is necessary for enterprises to be prepared for these changes. Industry 4.0 will greatly affect employees in particular, while the requirements for their competences and abilities are changing. Employees will have to adapt to work with new technologies and develop their skills for working within the digital revolution. The main aim of the paper is to present findings from research focused on the required and achieved competences and abilities of employees of industrial enterprises within the framework of Industry 4.0. 70 respondents, who were managers and specialists of industrial enterprises in Slovakia, took part in the research. We found out who will provide the necessary retraining and whether enterprises are currently ready for retraining employees due to the changes associated with Industry 4.0. The obtained data will be evaluated through descriptive statistics, tables and graphs. Findings and conclusions can be beneficial for the practice of industrial enterprises in the field of preparing employees for the digital revolution of Industry 4.0 with regard to the need to acquire new abilities and skills.
