Abstract:
This paper represents a study of using Scratch as a creative and innovative tool of establishing conditions for an interdisciplinary-oriented learning process. The integration is achieved by means of building interdisciplinary links between the discipline Computer modelling and other disciplines studied by the students. The aim is to propose an efficient and methodologically substantiated solution for defining the optimal teaching style by creating conditions for the development of the digital competence.
Introduction:
The fast advancement of digital technologies in education necessitates ongoing updating of teaching methods and styles. New technologies present university lecturers with the challenge to seek and employ methods of their efficient application in curricular and extracurricular activities.
Implementation of the interdisciplinary approach:
What is interdisciplinary teaching and learning:
Interdisciplinary teaching is a method of educational instruction whereby a student learns about a single topic or issue from a variety of different viewpoints. The learners combine learning from multiple disciplines to come up with new ways to think about issues and solve problems
Pre-instructional planning:
In the application of the interdisciplinary teaching and learning, as well as in any other training approach, a great amount of time and effort is required by the teacher during the stage of planning.
Teaching and introducing the methodology to students:
During the stage of teaching, along with obtaining feedback from students through reinforcing knowledge assignments, the implementation of the interdisciplinary approach stands out the most.
Integration of teaching Computer modelling with other disciplines:
The methodology of teaching information technology is a complex system which combines various methods, forms, and means of teaching which are all subordinated to the objectives and the different ways of controlling and evaluating knowledge.
This part of the paper describes activities for acquiring key competencies and interdisciplinary links.
Organisation of the pedagogical study. Analysis of the results:
The new methodology was applied with students majoring in Preschool and primary school pedagogy. The experimental work for verification of the specified hypothesis commenced in the academic 2020/2021 at the Angel Kanchev University of Ruse.
Analysis of the results of the study:
General characteristics of the used statistical methods:
In the statistical presentation of data a comparative analysis was made between the groups at the entrance level for ascertaining the previous knowledge of the learners, and at the exit level for ascertaining the efficiency of the applied methodology in the three control groups.
Analysis of the results as per the individual indicators:
The test as a whole [alpha = 0.919], as well as the individual elements show very good reliability which is confirmed by the factor analysis based on the method of principal components.
Conclusion:
This paper described a study of using Scratch as a creative and innovative tool of establishing conditions for an interdisciplinary-oriented learning process. The theoretical importance of the study lies in the methodology which was developed for the teaching of the subject Computer modelling. Keywords:
Scratch, interdisciplinary, innovative tool.
