Abstract:
Healthy interaction and communication should be the firm ground for a healthy relationship no matter if in private or professional sphere. Having teaching assistants in Czech classrooms brought new challenge to the job of a teacher and his/her communicative and cooperative skills. This study is a part of a larger project dealing with the teacher and teaching assistant relationship, in particular, it focuses on the identification of the basic patterns of their mutual communication and on the identification of competence structures and their creation within the implementation of the educational process. This study is based on the well-known Flanders system of interaction analysis (FIAS), which uses predetermined categories to record the interaction of the teacher with the pupils. This system was enriched with categories involving interaction and communication with a teaching assistance and verified within classes of Czech language in one primary school. A total of 6 video recordings were recorded and subsequently analysed. Results revealed that communication and interaction of both adults is limited to a certain, repetitive pattern which does not reflect the whole spectrum of possible communicative and interactive situations.
