Abstract:
This research has three main objectives: 1) to investigate the students’ attitude towards E-learning practice; 2) to experiment with English language instruction through IT; and 3) to enhance learners’ autonomy. The sample group comprised 112 English majors of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Khon Kaen University. The research tools consisted of a questionnaire on the students’ background, 18 E-learning lessons for self-practice on reading skills and a questionnaire on the students’ attitudes towards the E-learning practice. Data were collected from these instruments followed by interviews with a random group of 10 students. Analysis of the data was done in two ways: the quantitative data by means of computing the percentage, the standard deviation and the mean, and the qualitative data by means of content analysis and conclusion in the form of a descriptive report.
The main findings are :
1.The majority of the students had a positive attitude towards the E-learning self-practice.
2.The majority of the students thought that this style of learning was appealing and
the contents for the reading practice were attractive.
3.The students mentioned several aspects they particularly liked e.g. the flexibility in time and place for the practice and the freedom in choosing a particular lesson to practise .Keywords:
e-learning, learner's autonomy.
