Abstract:
The paper presents partial results of three research surveys covering the needs of novice teachers which were carried out in the years 2012 - 2016. In two cases the presented data were collected within the international Czech and Slovak research: Key Competences of Mentors Necessary for Successful Mentoring of Novice Teachers (VEGA 1/0677/12) and Personal and Professional Competences of Novice Teachers (mobility 7AMB14SK046, APVV CZ-SK-2013-0192). The third project, The Readiness of Students and Recent Graduates from Faculty of Education JU for Solving Educational Problems of Students (GAJU 154/2016/S) was supported by the Czech University of South Bohemia in Ceske Budejovice (JU). The presented results are based on quantitative data collected in questionnaire surveys. The research sample consisted of primary and secondary school novice teachers with up to five years of teaching experience. In the Czech Republic the data were collected from 337 questionnaires for novice teachers and in Slovakia from 253 questionnaires. The paper provides a comprehensive view on what the novice teachers need, what problems they face and how university training prepared them for the work at school. The findings are related to the formulation of the proposal for novice teachers’ targeted support.
