Abstract:
This research examines the result of a systematic review of the literature compiled from the articles submitted to the ISI WOS database. It tried to answer the following questions: Do scientific articles that have an impact on educational innovation include the media literacy dimension? And if they do, from what perspective is such competence addressed? The publication years considered in the search were 2010 to 2020. The descriptor "media* competenc*" was used for this purpose. The result showed 253 documents, of which 249 were reduced when the "Article" restriction was applied. By adding the descriptor "innovation" the number of articles was drastically reduced to 2. Finally, after reading titles and abstracts, 3 impact articles were identified that matched the selected search criteria. These were coded using Atlas.ti to analyse the use of the terms "media competence", "innovation" and "ICT" in them. In conclusion, the concept of media competence appears in the articles analysed in relation to the achievement of short-term goals included in the curriculum design such as the use of computers in education for development of new skills. However, media competence does not appear to be an instrument to promote innovation in education as a tool for personal learning.
