Abstract:
Speech language therapy (logopedics) is one of the most important part of the comprehensive intervention focused on persons of all age groups across different sectors, including the educational, represented the major group of speech language therapist (logopedical) professional work focus. The situation that the majority of the speech language therapy work has been continuously transferred into the health (medical, clinical) pull-out model sector was influenced by various economical, organizational and human resources factors and the speech language therapy (or “speech language pathology”) developed into an emancipated and independent profession. However, the inclusive approach and the growing number of children and adolescents with specific communication needs in educational institutions and the changing economical and organizational system in the care of such children or students put more emphasis on the need of creating a new curriculum of speech language therapy academic programs, especially on the initial level. The example of a good academic practice represented by highly demanding transdisciplinary program running at the faculty of education, and its modified curriculum with respect to international recommendations and minimal standards for its structure and content, are introduced, highlighting the implementation of competence-based and cross-sectoral approach and the preparation of students to adopt practical research- and evidence-based skills on the basis of cross-sectoral activities and practice training under a supervision. The international mobility programs, shared knowledge and technology, as well as research based academic activities important role are also mentioned, giving the examples of the importance of theory and practice mutual balance implemented into the curriculum to the audience and fostering the discussion on the profit of such innovated curriculum for the contemporary educational system, with respect to the equal opportunities to appropriate, high-level speech language therapy (logopedics) push-in model of service for children or adolescents with communication needs (disorders, impairments or communication specifics) in inclusive approach.
