Abstract:
Traditional education requires that teachers be responsible for whether students learn. The Teacher As Consultant model requires teachers to provide an educational framework that stimulates student desire to learn, but assumes that students are ultimately responsible for their education. This shift in the locus of control has huge implications in the instructional process. In this presentation, reasons for why professors must change the way they approach student acquisition of knowledge are provided. A typology of student learning is created, along with recommendations for how teachers can modify their curriculum to better assist students with the skills they will need in today's - and tomorrow's - world. This presentation is built upon both theoretical and practical bases.
