Abstract:
Over the past decade, the rapidly-changing demands of the knowledge-based economy have led to the concept of entrepreneurship in higher education being recognized as an efficient mechanism with which to enhance a country’s economic growth as well as maintain sustainable competitiveness. Universities, through teaching and learning methods, are thus expected to instill in students an entrepreneurial mindset and skills. Grounded primarily in constructivist learning theory, this research paper argues that an entrepreneurial mindset and skills among students can be established and fostered through activities provided by universities and/or colleges. In particular, we propose a conceptual framework and empirically test our hypothesis with college students in a medium-sized university in Thailand. The results indicate the opinions of students regarding a variety of entrepreneurial-based activities as well as their impact on students’ learning outcomes. Other relevant issues and implications for future research and managerial practices are also discussed.
