Abstract:
Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing higher education, starting with challenges such as the need for clear policies, followed by the impact on students and professors that requires developing critical thinking skills and the integration of strategies to ensure academic quality. ChatGPT could provide student orientation and is progressively used as a virtual assistant and as a resource for helping both students and professors in the process of generating content and individual learning plans. Educators have the challenge of ensuring the effective use of ChatGPT in their pedagogical practice, guaranteeing academic integrity. The purpose of this paper is to explore the opinions of university professors and students from Spanish-speaking countries regarding the possibilities and challenges of using ChatGPT in their teaching and learning activities. The findings of the conducted surveys showed, on the one hand, that students use ChatGPT for generating content, presentations, and works. On the other hand, professors perceived the adoption of ChatGPT as a support for generating assignments and presentations positively. However, many professors expressed their concern about the academic integrity and quality of ChatGPT. Both professors and students emphasized the importance of receiving training to use ChatGPT ethically and take advantage of all its possibilities to enhance the teaching and learning process.
