Abstract:
Case-study-based learning is an essential tool in Management education, especially in decision-making and leadership courses. Such methodologies do present a challenge in their assessment. This paper presents a summative co-assessment approach to a case-study-based third year Management course on Leadership and Communication Skills in the Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration . This approach involves self-assessment together with the evaluation of the instructor, with the aim to improve the engagement of the students by involving them in their own assessment.

Our work attempts to fill the perceived gap in the literature on approaches that enhance the engagement of the students by using case-studies and co-assessment of not only the work performed but also of the skills acquired. By means of a focus group and in-depth interviews with both students and instructors, it is our objective to study the effect that this approach has on the motivation of the students, as well as on their academic achievement.
