Abstract:
In the field of education, motivation represents a fundamental pillar upon which academic success and personal growth are built. Its importance cannot be overstated, as it serves as the driving force behind engagement, perseverance, and achievement.

Motivation is influenced by a variety of factors, including interest in the subject, personal values, career aspirations, past learning experiences, and social support. A high level of academic motivation can lead to deeper engagement with the material, improved academic performance, and the development of self-regulation and problem-solving skills. On the other hand, lack of motivation can lead to apathy, declining academic performance, and school dropout.

This article investigates the interaction between student motivation and the underlying factors contributing to the decline of student motivation within educational environments. With a growing concern regarding decreasing student motivation in the academic setting, understanding subtle dynamics and identifying key determinants are essential for promoting a favourable learning environment. This study presents a qualitative approach, utilizing thematic analysis on open-ended questions addressed to students, aiming to identify the multifaceted factors influencing their motivation.

The results reveal a wide range of factors affecting student motivation, from personal challenges to institutional deficiencies. This study provides valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and educational institutions for developing targeted interventions and strategies. Promoting a supportive and motivating educational environment requires addressing both individual and contextual factors, empowering students to achieve academic success and personal growth.
