USING THE EASY2REC LECTURE RECORDER TO SUPPORT MOTHER TONGUE LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Recently It was developed within the universe of Polytechnic of Porto through the efforts union of a teacher and a student an application that lets anyone record video lessons in a simple, fast and intuitive way.

The application was called initially EduGraal and intended to be according to their creators a simple and intuitive lecture recorder solution which did not require additional hardware and that could provide teachers means capable to simulate a real lesson.

This recorded video lesson could after be easily distribute on the Web (ex. on Youtube) or be putted in a LMS (such as Moodle) inside a course.

The solution now called Easy2Rec and it success results of its simplicity and potential to create educational content.

Easy2Rec was recently adopted in all the IES (Higher education institutions) of Portugal once the portuguese NREN (National Research and Education Network) FCT/FCCN (Foundation for National Scientific Computing) has established a strategic partnership with the startup company (Easy2rec) in sense to provide a solution dedicated to the recording of cultural and educational contents that could be used mostly on educational environments.

The main purpose of this document is to present a case study that used this intuitive lecture recorder in order to contribute to better learning of the portuguese language by students of secondary schools.

The main features of Easy2rec are:
- Able to capture the most common educational content such as PPT,PDF, Browser accessories , Images, Videos and Whiteboard and the user at the same time;
- Ability to capture the entire desktop or just a given application;
- Ability to capture video thru a second camera;
- Ability to record audio, video and data;
- HD recording of up to 4k;
- Possibility of using external hardware;
- Good personalization.

This study involved several students, teachers and schools and was integrated with some other educational activities based in technology.
Students and teachers classified the activities mediated by Easy2Rec as the most interesting and the potential to support learning especially in reading and speaking skills.

It was found that the students were trying to improve and continuously overcome his performance improving to almost every iteration.
The motivation and interest in the use of Easy2Rec were notorious.

The study revealed that this type of tools and educational activities can contribute significantly to the mother tongue teaching making the process more fun and the ability to engage the wave students each intends to surpass himself as if they a game they were.

This solution reveals great potential in the delivery of homework activities and students related that was very useful in the self-assessment and self-criticism process.

In a era where it is notorious the difficulty of communication and expression, mainly among young people this study shows the potential use of a specific technology.
